Jessica Liu is a writer and director from the Bay Area with two BAs in Film & Digital Media and Feminist Studies - Culture, Power, Representation, at UC Santa Cruz. Since graduating she has served as one of ten student delegates chosen nationally, at CAAM, worked as a producer for the award-winning documentary “Dharavi Diary” (Raindance, Cinequest, National Geographic All Roads , Epidemic Film Fest, etc) , edited a video for TECHSF which broadcasted on ABC Channel 7′s “Beyond the Headlines”.
Her debut short film, "Memory Blocks", which she directed and wrote while studying abroad in Singapore, premiered at the San Diego Asian Film Festival. Next she wrote and directed "oRaNgEdReAmS", a coming of age story set in the early 2000s. It premiered at the 20th Dances with Films Festival at the TLC Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Blvd in Los Angeles, was selected by the New Media Film Festival and screened for Los Angeles Parks and Recreation’s initiative, Girls Play LA to benefit underserved girls, at the Silver Lake Picture Show.
Her latest project which debuted in 2019, “Prom Time!”, is a magical realism film revolving around cross-generational desire. It was selected at Newfilmmakers LA, San Diego Asian Film Festival, Indie Shorts Fest, and won the “Best Women’s Empowerment” award at Anaheim Film Fest.
Jessica is currently a finalist in competition at this year’s StudioFest as one of five directors chosen to direct their debut feature film.
She is a member of the Alliance of Women Directors.
